So the teaser trailer for Star Trek: Into Darkness was released today, and boy does it look exciting.
Directed by JJ Abrams, Into Darkness is the sequel to 2009’s Star Trek, which is itself a reboot of the franchise after ten movies. All the major cast members return, including Chris Pine as Captain Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock and Simon Pegg as Scotty.
Joining the cast is villain Benedict Cumberbatch, who’s certainly been busy lately with Sherlock, War Horse and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey all in the bag.
From the trailer, the latest instalment looks like it’s abiding by the tried and tested “when in doubt, destroy the Enterprise” theory. Or at least, destroy half of Starfleet. There’s plenty of wreckage and devastation to go around, leading on from the poster which features Cumberbatch standing in a ruined London:
JJ Abrams’ reboot was the best thing to happen to Star Trek since First Contact, and I for one can’t wait to see where they take the series. There has been mention of an Into Darkness prologue screening before IMAX showings of The Hobbit this month. My ticket is already booked so if I get to check out some footage I’ll let you know how it is.
In the meantime, the trailer shows off some fancy footage I think we can all start to get very excited about.
Star Trek: Into Darkness is released in cinemas May 17, 2013.
