BAFTA Wins 2013

Glitz and glam shone out of our television screens on Monday, as a massive group of unfathomably wealthy people came together to tell each other how amazing they all are. I am, of course, talking about the BAFTAs, the second biggest celebration of cinematic quality after the Oscars.

Somewhat unsurprisingly, critics’ favourite Les Miserables came out on top with four awards. Skyfall I was pleased to see took home the award for Outstanding British Film, but arguably the most successful was the team behind Ben Affleck’s thriller ArgoThe film bagged itself Best Director, Best Picture and Best Editing. The awards come after a string of various prizes and a nomination for the Directors’ Guild of America Award for Affleck, which makes it even more bizarre that he hasn’t been nominated for an Oscar this year. The film itself has been nominated for a total of seven Oscars, so I suppose he won’t be too upset, especially considering he would be the recipient of Best Picture as he also produced the project.
